Lunch with the President

"I want to hear your concerns. And this is between you and me," said MCC - Penn Valley President Bernard Franklin on the morning of Thursday, November 9th, to approximately 50 students gathered in the fifth floor conference room.

With the sky-blue view behind him, Franklin asked the students to tell him frankly what was on their minds. "This is private, this is sacred," he promised.

Election 2006: Analysis and Results

Click for story

A foreshadowing of the dogfight called the 2006 Election had been cast for months. With escalating gas prices, a steady decline in President Bush’s approval rating, and growing unrest over the war in Iraq, the Democrats were set to gain a few seats in the House of Representatives and the Senate. It turns out the Republican Party dug themselves a deeper hole than they had thought, losing the majority of seats in both the House and the Senate.

The Democrats ran wild in the House of Representatives race, winning 28 seats that had been held by the Republican Party. No Democrat incumbent lost a re-election attempt. Democrats will have the majority in the House, holding 232 seats over the 203 held by Republicans.

Editorial: Smuggle Me Elmo

Click for Story

Have you ever wondered why kids love Elmo so much? Well, maybe it’s because he comes filled with meth.

Recently, Colorado officials busted up a major drug ring that ran through Las Vegas and California. There was a reported 45 pounds of high-quality methamphetamine hidden inside Elmo and friends. Nineteen people, one of whom is the suspected ringleader, were arrested.

Okay, puppets being used to ship narcotics around the country is funny, and you can’t help but smile, but all the media attention focusing on the fact that they used an Elmo doll begs the question, “Why is a puppet so famous?”
