PV President Plans Community Bonding

Click for Story

MCC - Penn Valley is engaging the community in several new initiatives, President Bernard Franklin announced in a Community Meeting held Thursday afternoon, October 5. Dr. Franklin addressed an audience of about 75 staff, faculty, and community members in room 005 of the Humanities building, then answered questions and moderated discussion.

"We're in the process of doing the assessment, trying to determine whether we think this community will give up a certain dollar amount, probably somewhere in the area of $20-25 million," said Franklin.

Obama Speaks At McCaskill Rally

Click for Story

Barack Obama. Not "Alabama." Not "yo' momma." Buh-ROCK oh-BOM-uh.

On Saturday, October 7, Obama clarified his name onstage to an audience of excited fans at a rally to support Claire McCaskill in her campaign for Senate. "Fans" is the right word to describe the crowd: since his speech at the 2004 Democratic Convention attracted attention from all corners of the nation, the junior senator from Illinois has become a political celebrity.

Editorial: You Are Descended From Immigrants

Click for Story

The nation is currently up in arms about people crossing the border illegally. These illegal immigrants are supposedly ruining America with their mere presence. A lot of individuals feel that if your family does not have a history here, then you should have to go through the bureaucratic red tape set in place for people who are new to this land. If you can successfully jump through all of the hoops involved then you are deemed an American Citizen.

In fact, unless you are a Native American, you are on stolen land. When this continent was "founded" by the Spanish, it was already inhabited. This makes your ancestors illegal immigrants. It also makes you seem hypocritical when you look down on people trying to cross the border.
