Letter to the Editor:
Get the U.S. Out!

Editor,

Probably the hottest political debate is the war in Iraq for this year’s election.  Should the U.S. continue staying in Iraq? Or should the U.S. withdraw from Iraq?  Many are tired of the war and they are following the debates to hopefully choose the right candidate. The decision to go to the war was a disaster and it was based on LIES. The time for the war is up! It’s time to bring peace.

To destroy Saddam’s weapons and fight against terrorism, the U.S. decided to go to a war against Iraq in March of 2003.  Five years ago, in the name of “war on terror”, the U.S. bombed and occupied Iraq.  Many Iraqis became happy and satisfied with the U .S. after taking the power away from Saddam Hussein.  But all problems started as soon as the U.S. decided to stay in Iraq.

Many Iraqis started hating the U.S. because their country was occupied by the U.S.  A lot of killings and tortures in Iraq caused Iraqis to think of the U.S. as another Saddam Hussein.  Based on http://www.iraqbodycount.org/, since the war started in Iraq until now, documented civilian deaths from violence in Iraq are in a range of 81,632 – 89,103.

My parents are from the Middle East and I have spent several years of my life living in the Middle East.  I understand the culture and realize the differences in both cultures, which have put a huge gap between the two regions. I do not think that the war is going well and I know that due to the Middle Eastern culture, the Iraqis will never support the idea of the American troops staying in the country. I think the money that is being spent on the war could’ve been used for many other good purposes here in the U.S.

Many reasons inside the USA including economic reasons caused the Americans to dislike the war.  High gas prices, more taxes, etc. that are the side effects of any war, affected American lives.

It is not a good idea to just withdraw from Iraq, but there is need for a plan to eventually get out of Iraq.  Iraq has its own rightful government and after training their soldiers, they can decide for their own country.  I don’t think that they need us to decide for them.

We need to focus more on our issues and problems here in the U.S. What is manifest regarding the issue is that most Iraqis and Americans want the U.S. to withdraw from Iraq.
