The Penn Valley Women Scouts' coach, Jeff Atkins, is one of the top women's coaches in Missouri and plans to bring his winning ways to Penn Valley. Atkins is number three in winning percentages for Missouri Girls Basketball. With an overall record of 427-143, the thirteen-year veteran is now in his first season as Head Coach.
The team's current record is 17-11. The average points per game is 58.5, while opponents average 63 points per game.
Offensively, the team has been led by Hilary Walker and Nikita Norwood. These two have been standouts all season.
Walker is a 5'10" sophomore who graduated from Raytown South; she plays guard and forward and averages twelve points and nearly eight rebounds a game.
Norwood is a 5'8" freshman from Union High School. She leads the team with a 49% field goal percentage and 4.5 rebounds per game.
The depth of this team seems to be important. The Women Scouts have four players averaging ten points or more this season, and five different players average more than four rebounds a game.
Only time will tell, but the future of the Penn Valley Women's basketball team looks bright, with a proven coach and solid players hungry for a winning season.
