On April 4, the Office of Campus Life and Leadership hosted a Spring Fling for MCC – Penn Valley students. The aim of the event was to spread awareness of MCC – PV clubs and organizations, who were invited to set up tables in order to provide information and interact with prospective members. The clubs that were represented at the event are as follows:
Novel Challenge: MCC – PV’s banned book club
Novel Challenge, whose table featured books inside a metal cage, is a book club that centers around reading and discussion of books that have been banned in schools or libraries. Some discussion occurs at meetings, but much of it happens online.
Spectrum
A spectrum of colors in the form of tissue paper and balloons enveloped our table, which displayed a selection of past articles as well as handouts encouraging students to join us by signing up for the three-credit News Writing and Reporting class (English 104) in the summer or fall.
MCC – PV Nursing Division
The nursing division presented information about their programs.

The T/LC, MCC – PV’s free tutoring resource for students, had a table with a trivia game and ring toss.
Organization of Latin Awareness for Students
OLAS decked out their table in Mexican decorations and created a game based on Latin American trivia for passersby.
Campus Crusade for Christ
Campus Crusade for Christ offered information about spiritual support for students.
Criminal Justice Association
A trifold proclaiming “CRIMINAL JUST-US ASSOCIATION” was the centerpiece of the CJA’s table.
Black Student Association
The BSA’s table was empty in the morning, but people were spotted manning it later in the afternoon. The BSA was the organization that brought Mike Jones to MCC – PV a few weeks ago.
Student Ambassadors
The Student Ambassadors club is a service organization for MCC – PV students who want to do something to help out their community. Their projects include Habitat for Humanity and the Kansas City AIDS Walk.
Student Activities Council
The Penn Valley Student Activities Council, which organized the event, is part of the Office of Campus Life and Leadership. Some of the activities the SAC has brought to MCC – PV in the past are karaoke, Dance Day, and a NASCAR racing simulator.
