Sometimes, even if you do all the homework and pay attention in class, you need help.
That's what the Penn Valley Teaching/Learning Center is here for. The T/LC is a free tutoring resource for MCC – Penn Valley students.
"Most students come in for math," says Karen Moore, supervisor of the center. Math tutoring is available on a walk-in basis. Students can come in and work on homework at tables around the room, then raise a red flag to let the tutors know when they need help.
"I found the Teaching/Learning Center to be very helpful with my MATH 110 class," says Emily Richardson, an MCC – Penn Valley student. "There was always a tutor available to help me when I raised a flag. I never had to wait for more than one or two minutes."
The T/LC also houses a writing lab. Students must make appointments for writing tutoring. The T/LC does not offer proofreading, but tutors can look over papers to identify problem areas and work with students on specific concerns.
Other subjects students can get help with at the T/LC include chemistry, biology, Spanish, French, accounting, physics, reading and study skills.
"It's an environment where students can get some support and assistance so they don't feel so alone," says Moore.
The T/LC is open from 8:00 to 6:30 Monday-Thursday and 8:00 to 4:30 on Fridays. For more information, call 759-4292 or drop in at LR 202.
