Letter to the Editor:
Why Students Don't Vote

Dear Editor:

I just read your article on why students don't vote in elections. I agree with your argument that students want to complain but don't take the necessary steps to make sure their voices are heard.

I'm going to play devil's advocate now. I know that a lot of people who register to vote don't get their voter cards in the mail on time, which delays the process. This could be due to a faulty mailbox that has been tampered with by tenants and/or a lazy landlord.

Secondly, I personally don't like either of the Senate candidates; they both are snakes and they both should be ashamed. McCaskill is the lesser of two evils; then you have Talent who is running campaign ads with Blacks testifying how good the Republicans have been to us. He stooped to a new low trying to get the "Black vote." His record in office should do his talking, not his maids in his mansion he just bought.

Then you have the church, which has begun to mix politics with religion. Last Sunday I was baptized for the first time. I then began to hear flak from by pastor about voting no on Amendment 2. I was told I was not a Christian if I voted Yes on Amendment 2. This is the same man who just baptized me, so I don't want to disagree with him, but saying that "God will be angry at you if you don't vote accordingly" probably influences many people.

In saying that, I will vote tomorrow and I will follow my heart because I believe I do have a voice. Great article!
