Life in the Fast Lane:
NASCAR Simulator
By Richard Sheets

On Wednesday, September 27, Kramer Entertainment brought a NASCAR simulator to the Penn Valley campus.

The Campus Life and Leadership Technician, Shannon Ross, explained, "This is purely for the entertainment of the students. The response has been good; we've had a line since ten in the morning when it started."

The simulator consists of an actual race car, stripped of its innards and stuffed with monitors, sensors, and motion technology. The purpose is to simulate driving a car at 150 miles per hour. All motion and physics aspects are included with the simulator. It banks hard when you make a tight turn and lurches forward when you slam on the brakes. This is supposed to simulate the experience of driving a race car.

Adrian Berryhill, a Penn Valley student, said, "It was a lot of fun, almost like being there."

Kramer Entertainment is a company that Penn Valley has used for student entertainment in the past. It is also the same company that brought in the crystals-engraving presentation last spring.

Though there is no grand prize other than bragging rights, that seems to be enough to get students to come out and enjoy the NASCAR experience.
