Summer's Here

MCC-Penn Valley's final week of the spring semester is May 7-14. So spring will be gone, and summer will be here. During the summer break there are numerous things that you can do.

One thing you can do is visit the Kansas City Zoo. The Zoo is located on the east side of Swope Park. Admission prices for adults is $9.50, seniors $8.50, and children $6.50. Visit their website for summer hours at www.kansascity.com.

If you are interested in theme parks, take a trip to Worlds/Oceans of Fun. During the month of June, Worlds of Fun will feature clowns and salsa dancing lessons. Oceans of Fun will have swim teams, swim clubs, and other activities. Both parks are located at 4545 Worlds of Fun Avenue, Kansas City, Missouri. The Sprint Center, located in the new and energized Power and Light District, is an arena that hosts live concerts and athletic tournaments. The Sprint Center was recently the home of the 2008 March Madness Basketball Tournament. For all you music lovers, Tim McGraw will be at the Sprint Center on June 17, 2008. Also, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers will perform there on July 22, 2008.

The Kansas City Power and Light District is a courtyard of dining eateries and entertainment venues. They will have a series of events going on during the summer season. Among them are: Rock The Block (Wednesdays, June 4 - July 30), Hot Country Nights (Thursdays, May 29 - September 4), and the District Art Annual (June 28 - July 29).

The historic 18th and Vine Jazz District has a couple of events during the month of June. The first event is the Rhythm and Ribs Jazz/Blues Festival. This event is held annually during the summer. This year the Rhythm and Ribs Jazz/Blues Festival be held June 13, 2008, and will start at 12pm. This is will be a time to enjoy great barbeque and great music from different blues and jazz artists.

With summer just around the corner, replenish your body with plenty of water, central air, and entertainment.
